CAW Events

Even the most diligent student needs a little break from time to time to recover and recharge his or her batteries for their studies. The Club Ausländischer Weihenstephaner offers a varied programme of events both during the lecture period and during the holidays. Whether sports, education, art and culture, or simply socialising, at the CAW, you will find the right event for you!

CAW Semester Planner Summer term 2024

	CAW Regulars' Table During the lecture period, we hold our CAW regulars' table at the Sammamera in Freising every Wednesday at 8:00 pm. The regulars' table is a meeting place for international students to get to know each other and exchange ideas. Those interested can also take the opportunity to taste the local beer specialities.
	Tasting Events We promote brewing and teaching beverage technology skills outside the university. You don't have to be a brewing student to benefit from this. The CAW experts professionally prepare information about the beverage to be tasted and guide you through the tasting. As a guest, all you have to bring is interest and curiosity. We regularly taste beer, but also wine, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages.
	International Movie Nights The CAW's international movie nights offer the opportunity to fully immerse oneself in the culture of the respective host country. The film screening is preceded by a tasting of drinks typical of the country with a special focus on the beverage-technological background, often accompanied by small appetisers typical of the country. At the screening itself, award-winning films from the host country are shown with the original soundtrack and English subtitles. In addition, there are other dishes typical of the country as well as desserts.
	Hiking Trips A hiking trip combines sport and nature experience. Freising's location makes it an ideal starting point for a variety of hikes, be it to the nearby Alps, along the Isar river or right next door to the Freisinger Moos. As a rule, our hikes are day trips, but sometimes we spend a night in a mountain hut on longer trips.
	Company and Factory Tours How is a particular drink or food actually made? How is a wine barrel or a bottling machine produced? All these questions can best be answered through factory tours. These expert tours – often conducted directly by our alumni – provide participants with exciting insights into the production processes and complement the grey theory from the lecture hall.

We can usually be found in the back room of the restaurant. Everyone is welcome to join us. No registration is required for participation!
	CAW Beer Tasting – Benelux Place: BayWa Co-Working-Space, Maximus-von-Imhof-Forum 2, 85354 Freising Date: Friday, 19.04.2024 Time: 03:00 pm As part of our CAW Beer of the Week, we present international, unusual and special beers on our social media channels that you rarely encounter in everyday life. The tasting of the beers takes place in a small setting with six to eight people under the guidance of an experienced brewing student. The target group is brewing students and beer enthusiasts. After all, an expert report wants to be written about each of the beers. But don't worry: during the joint review and discussion of the beers, we gather enough material about all the sensory impressions the beers have to offer. For our Benelux beer tasting, we will have an interesting selection of Belgian and Dutch beers. The participation fee for the tasting is 5 € (free for members and scholarship holders). The event has a limited number of places. Please register by e-mail (to verein@dercaw.de).
	Alcoholic High Tea – Liqueur Place: BayWa Co-Working-Space, TUM Venture Lab FAB, Maximus-von-Imhof-Forum 2 Date: Friday, 26.04.2024 Time: 02:30 pm In Bavaria, people like to serve strudel with their afternoon coffee, which can be filled with a wide variety of fruits and will delight every sweet tooth. To fulfil our educational mission in the field of beverage science, we serve the corresponding - also sugar-heavy - liqueur creations from the fine distillery Prinz from Austria with the strudel. Enjoy apple, apricot and plum strudel in solid and liquid form with us and learn interesting facts about liqueurs and their production. 	CAW Beer Tasting – Wheat Beer Competition 2023 Place: BayWa Co-Working-Space, TUM Venture Lab FAB, Maximus-von-Imhof-Forum 2 Date: Friday, 03.05.2024 Time: 03:00 pm As part of our CAW Beer of the Week, we present international, unusual and special beers on our social media channels that you rarely encounter in everyday life. The tasting of the beers takes place in a small setting with six to eight people under the guidance of an experienced brewing student. The target group is brewing students and beer enthusiasts. After all, an expert report wants to be written about each of the beers. But don't worry: during the joint review and discussion of the beers, we gather enough material about all the sensory impressions the beers have to offer. At our beer tasting we will look back on the beers of the CAW Wheat Beer Competition 2023. The participation fee for the tasting is 5 € (free for members and scholarship holders). 	Pentecost Excursion Wheat Beer Brewery Kuchlbauer Place: Weissbierbrauerei Kuchlbauer Date: Monday, 20.05.2024 Time: 07:45 am The average Pentecost excursion lasts four days. However, some people may only need one more excursion day, don't have the whole week or want to experience something on Pentecost Monday before setting off on a long journey. The CAW Pentecost excursion to the wheat beer brewery Kuchlbauer in Abensberg on Pentecost Monday is ideal for all of these people.The Kuchlbauer Brewery is full of fun, Bavarian culture, brewing history, unique architecture and, of course, beer. It’s a mix of traditional and modern; the location is well worth visiting and is accessible by the “FreizeitBus,” which is an inexpensive bus that travels from Freising directly to the brewery. Date: Monday May 20^th. Meeting place: Freising Train Station by the front entrance. 	CAW Movie Night – Netherlands Place: Will be communicated upon registration Date: Saturday, 08.06.2024 Time: 06:00 pm We are delighted to invite you to our international movie night in our hop garden in the summer semester 2024. This time we are celebrating Dutch cinema with "New Kids Turbo" (2010) and "New Kids Nitro" (2011). Both films will be shown with the original Dutch soundtrack and with English subtitles. The Dutch film evening will be opened with fine Dutch beers accompanied by typical bar snacks. The CAW Movie Night is a purely private event and free of charge with a limited number of participants. 	BBQ at Isar River Place: Korbinianbrücke Date: Saturday, 22.06.2024 Time: 05:00 pm What could be nicer than spending a warm summer evening with beer and friends on the banks of the Isar? The CAW invites you to enjoy one of the longest days of the year together on the weekend around the summer solstice. We will walk along the river and find a nice spot to have a picnic together and enjoy some beer. The CAW will provide a certain supply of beer. Please bring your own food. We will meet on Saturday, the 22^nd of June 2024, at 5:00 pm at the southern end of the Korbinian Bridge in Freising.
	Austrian Beer Pairing Place: Will be communicated upon registration Date: Saturday, 06.07.2024 Time: 06:00 pm Austria is a beer country. Even though Austria's beer culture is quite similar to that of Bavaria, it is worth exploring the country, its beers and its culinary highlights. Join us on our journey through Austrian cuisine and enjoy a selection of Austrian craft beers to accompany each dish. For each course, our experienced brewing students will explain why we have chosen the particular beer for each course and explain the specifics of the brewing process. The Austrian Beer Pairing is free of charge and the number of participants is limited. If you would like to take part, please send us a message or an e-mail (verein@dercaw.de). 	CAW Movie Night – Portugal Place: Will be communicated upon registration Date: Saturday, 03.08.2024 Time: 06:00 pm We are delighted to invite you to our international film night in our hop garden in the summer semester 2024. This time we are celebrating Portuguese cinema with "Aniki Bóbó" (1942) and "Capitães de Abril" (2000). Both films will be shown with the original Portuguese soundtrack and with English subtitles. 	Extraordinary regulars' table to mark the 85^th anniversary of the founding of the CAW Place: BayWa Co-Working-Space, TUM Venture Lab FAB, Maximus-von-Imhof-Forum 2 Date: Friday, 16.08.2024 Time: 02:00 pm The origins of the Club Ausländischer Weihenstephaner are based on beer, so it seems only logical that the start of our celebrations to mark the 85^th anniversary of the founding of the CAW should also revolve around beer. We will be meeting at 2.00 pm for the CAW wheat beer competition tasting event. Experience exciting wheat beers in the "classic" and "creative" categories, brewed by the Freising student body, and take an active part in the public voting and the special prize for the most beautiful bottle label. The tasting event will be accompanied by specialist lectures on the subject of hops and malt. The tasting event will be followed by an informal CAW get-together. The winning beers from last year's CAW wheat beer competition will be on tap. If you work in the beverage industry, you are welcome to bring a crate of your own beer/beverage to present to the others. There will also be delicious snacks and, of course, the award ceremony for the CAW wheat beer competition.
	Scientific morning to mark the 85^th anniversary of the founding of the CAW Place: BayWa Co-Working-Space, TUM Venture Lab FAB, Maximus-von-Imhof-Forum 2 Date: Saturday, 17.08.2024 Time: 09:30 am The programme for the 85^th anniversary of the founding of the CAW covers all the activities of student life. In addition to the regulars' table, festive evening and Frühschoppen, there will therefore also be a scientific morning on Saturday, the 17^th of August 2024, starting at 9:30 am, which will lure you back into the lecture hall. You can look forward to a lecture on current scientific research in Weihenstephan, an analysis of the situation of the CAW and the Association for the Promotion of International Students in Weihenstephan e.V. as well as a highlight from our lecture series "Taste around the World" about port wine.
	Celebratory evening to mark the 85^th anniversary of the founding of the CAW Place: Will be communicated upon registration Date: Saturday, 17.08.2024 Time: 05:30 pm What could be a better pinnacle for our celebrations to mark the 85^th anniversary of the founding of the CAW than a grand festivity? The finest Bavarian cuisine, accompanied by the best Bavarian brews, festive sounds, speeches and congratulations. CAW ball and regulars' table in one. Spend an unforgettable evening with us and experience the joie de vivre that you already felt during your time as a student at the CAW!
	Weißwurstfrühstück Place: Will be communicated upon registration Date: Sunday, 18.08.2024 Time: 10:00 am The celebrations for the 85^th anniversary of the founding of the CAW extend over three days and can be quite exhausting. For this reason, we invite you to a traditional Weißwurst breakfast on the last day. Enjoy Weißwurst, wheat beer and pretzels and let the day and the anniversary end at your own pace. Don't forget: The afternoon coffee can also be part of a long breakfast!
	CAW regulars' table at the Freising fair Place: Freising fair Date: Wednesday, 11.09.2024 Time: 06:00 pm The first part of the exams is finished, the preparation for the second part has (not yet) started. It is the ideal time for a summer regulars' table. The Freisinger Volksfest offers the right setting for it. We will meet on Wednesday, the 11^th of September 2024, at 6:00 pm in the beer tent.
